Wolfgang Stiller

Wolfgang Stiller studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1984 to 1989. Between 2000 and 2007 he lived in New York and from 2007 to 2008 in China, where he taught, among other things, as a visiting professor at New York University in Shanghai.

Stiller is particularly known for his “Matchstickmen”. With the burnt match heads, which have been created in different sizes and materials since 2008, Stiller continues to invent new installations that are adapted to the respective exhibition situations. He pays particular attention to the properties of materials and surface structures. Countless of his objects are the result of a cast or impression, whereby the original object has no meaning as a reference and is usually no longer recognizable. What remains is the pure form.

Stiller's work has been represented in numerous solo exhibitions worldwide, including in New York, Tokyo, Taipei and São Paulo. His works are part of private and public collections, including Wuhan museum of fine art (Wuhan, China), Museum Bochum, Museum Belden an Zee (Scheveningen, Netherlands) and Changwon city (Korea).
