Lena Dobner is an artist from Germany. Studied fine arts with Daniel Richter and graduated her Masterclass with Ralf Kerbach in Dresden. Since 2018/2021 she is living in Vienna. Dobner has already exhibited at Kunsthaus Dahlem, Kunstsammlung Hurrle, musée pôle culturel Drusenheim or in the academie of fine arts in Paris. One outstanding exhibition was in Oradour sur Glane, where she was permitted showing her paintings as the first German artist after the massacre of 1944 in the centre de la mémoire.
‘Whether still lifes, (self-)portraits or traditional art-historical subjects - Lena Dobner's work breaks through motivic categories and boundaries and self-confidently opens up to new thematic worlds, some of which expand into series. Her depictions make use of a brute aesthetic, sometimes taken to extremes, which does not shy away from the vulgar and grotesque and presents viewers with unembellished emotional states, pre-verbal truths and the artist's inner dogmas, which cannot be verbalised but only visualised.’ (Sophie Wartzfeld, art historian, Vienna)
