Helmut Grill is a photographic artist who nevertheless cannot be counted among the classical photographers, since he has been dealing with photographic image manipulation from the very beginning. He seeks out his image material from the World Wide Web, expands it with his own photographs, and fuses the representations into an image that has never existed in this form before, but which nevertheless seems familiar to us. From sections and fragments of reality, he creates a new reality that seems exaggerated and yet realistic, artificial and yet natural, constructed and yet pictorial. In his critical examination of our time and in his analytical view of social developments, Grill has chosen photography, the so-how, as a medium of reflection and the possibility form, the not-yet, as a mode of representation.
