Hans Böhler

Hans Böhler (1884 - 1961) was an austrian painter and graphic artist. Böhler created mainly expressionist strongly colored person representations, but also landscapes and precisely contoured nudes. Böhler was close friends with Josef Hoffmann, who set up his studio in Vienna; In 1928 he became a member of the Austrian Werkbund. Böhler lived in the USA from 1936-1950, then returned to Vienna. From 1920 he had exhibited in the Secession, later abroad; 1952 and 1953 were followed by collective exhibitions in the Secession. His work is represented in several public museum collections such as the Metropolitan Museum in New York or an extensive collection in the Leopold Museum in Vienna.
