Florian Appelt

Florian Appelt

Florian Appelt, born in 1992 in Vienna, studied Fine Arts (Graphics and Printmaking) from 2013 to 2018, followed by a doctoral program focusing on Digital Media from 2018 to 2023 at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. His works have been featured in national and international group and solo exhibitions across Europe, including in Stockholm, Berlin, and the Netherlands.

Symbolism and the process of creation play a pivotal role in Appelt's work. The interweaving of synthetic and organic materials, as indicated by the title of his series Silicon, explores the relationship between humans and machines. On a sociological level, his works address complex questions about masculine role models, consumer culture, and the art market. Interpersonal themes are also visualized through figurative associations with screens and their role as fundamental interfaces for communication. A dynamic interplay between micro-recordings of daily life and distorted images of pop culture is embodied through sculptural wall pieces and immersive spatial installations. Appelt's interdisciplinary approach creates an eclectic, abstract, yet cohesive representation of a society in the midst of change.
